Body, mind and soul. They are undeniably interconnected and their conditions are dependent on one another. A healthy body is not a requirement for faith and intimacy with God, but I’ve found in my experience that when I care for the basic needs of my body, my spiritual life flourishes. What we eat, whether or not we exercise, and what we do in our free time can all help or hinder our relationship with the Lord. I can say with confidence from a God-given place of wholeness in Christ, there is a very real tie between my physical wellness and the state of my soul.

I love to read, yet I never seem to find (or make) the time to start any of the books waiting for me on the bookshelf. Despite a deep longing to read, I’ve made so many excuses to do other things with my time. After a very restful week of unemployment (or, as I call it, funemployment), I’ve rediscovered the beauty of reading for pleasure. I’ve decided that now is the time to take on a new challenge of reading more frequently. Why now?
It’s summertime. I have no job. I want to.
I hope to finish at least one book a month. I think that’s realistic enough to be manageable, and short enough of a time period to motivate me. So, without further ado, here is my working list of books to read:
Found Art by Leeana Tankersley
Cold Tangerines by Shauna Niequist
Girl Perfect by Jennifer Strickland
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith
House Rules by Jodi Picoult
Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult
Hungry by Crystal Renn
PS I Love You by Cecelia Ahern
The Red Tent by Anita Diamant
The Memory Keeper’s Daughter by Kim Edwards
What books are you reading right now? Any recommendations?
